Review of Freddy Hoppie and the Eyeglasses by Michelle Nott

I love children's stories with a great message, check  out Michelle Nott's newest release, it is very charming!


Michelle Nott is an author, poet, and freelance editor with articles and stories published in numerous online and print publications. She is a member of SCBWI, CBI, and Houston Writer's Guild. Her poem “Inis Meain” earned an Honorable Mention in the 80th Annual Writer's Digest Competition in the category of Non-rhyming Poetry. Before moving to Belgium with her family where they lived over a decade, she taught French at the elementary, secondary, and university levels. Besides reading and writing, she enjoys spending time with her family cooking, traveling, visiting art museums, taking long walks through the Belgian countryside, hiking along the Cornish coast and snow-shoeing in the French Alps. She currently resides in Texas and is represented by Storm Literary Agency.

MY REVIEW

Love this cute story about Freddy and his imaginary friend Hoppie.  I like the way the author used a very creative way to help reduce the fears a child might encounter when visiting an eye doctor for the first time. The message is crystal clear in that it shows that children often are too embarrassed to seek help when they have a disability that can easily be fixed.

The author did an outstanding job bringing into focus a very serious problem that must be remedied in order for some children to excel in school.  I think many parents can relate well to this charming story, especially, if the little ones in their life need glasses.

The colorful illustrations added more depth and value to the story and can help the reader appreciate the important message even more.  I recommend this story for classroom and school libraries and doctor offices, for ages 6 to 8.
